arthur. then two people killed on 72nd avenue and international boulevard. that is where bob redell joins us live on what has become a deadly day in oakland. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, marla and jon. we spoke to a resident who said they wondered what is going on. four gun deaths within the city limits since 9:00 last night. all young men in their late teens or early 20s. two killed on 72nd avenue where we are right now. a residential street. a couple of blocks away from international boulevard. these men were in a green minivan on the street. a van that one of the passengers bought within the past day. at 6:00 as the sun was coming up this morning, someone walked up to the van and there was a confrontation. this person fired multiple shots at them killing them both here on the scene. police tell us they don't have a motive. they are still looking for that suspect. a neighbor of one of the men said the two regularly sat out in a vehicle just to talk. weren't loud. were respectful. from her point of view, seemed to stay out of trouble. >> this is the first time we ever had any ki

up hope. search crews will find their missing loved ones lost at sea. we have bob redell near the san mateo coast where the boat capsized just yesterday. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. signs of hope that those two men might have made it to shore. we spoke with a member of the family. they told us that last night they did find two articles of clothing. two jackets. not life jackets, but regular jackets between the pigeon point light house and the wreckage a mile north of here looking in the direction you are looking at right now. that is one reason both families are back out here this morning looking for their loved ones. so is the coast guard. one of the helicopters has been buzzing up the san mateo county shore line searching for the men. they were on the 18 foot fishing boat that capsized this morning. four men, all friends and fishermen, were a mile out when at 10:30 yesterday morning, a large wave toppled them and their boat sending everyone in the cold surf. two of the men had life jackets and they made it to shore and alerted the authorities. the other two we

straight down to bob and rick. it is a new quarter, a new week. i believe since 1980 the fourth quarter has generally been the best quarter of the year for the s&p. could it be a little different this time round considering we've got lot of things to get through, like an election and an upcoming fiscal cliff? >> yeah. i think most important thing is still going to be whether we can keep the expected momentum in some of the earnings. this may be the trough for earnings. we'll be at negative in q3 for the earnings compared to the third quarter of last year. a lot of expectations are riding on pushing up the earnings this quarter, particularly in the financials. we're expecting 20% growth. if you ask me where the tension is, i'm not sure they can pull out that kind of growth. dow industrials, we sort of sold going into bernanke's -- he spoke at the economics club in the midwest. the important thing here, no real change in his policies. we did see some comments on inflation. he's not that worried about it. elsewhere in the major sectors, risk on today. materials, financials, industrials all to

" santelli in chicago. bob pisani, why isn't the market up 500 points given this fantastic job number? >> i think the numbers are fairly modest on the job increases which is what i'm interested in, how many new jobs are there out there. so i'm not terribly surprised. but with that said, we've had a pretty good weekover all. other headline news, ism, ism services, auto numbers and even retail sales were not bad overall. look at the numbers. my point is we've had a broad advance in the stock market. when you see financials going up with health care, consumer discretionary and consumer staples going up as much as consumer discretionary, both up 1.9%, industrials, here's the laggard -- tech because of the terrible hewlett-packard guidance we got. everything else has pretty much had an excellent week overall. for the groelobal economy, numb weren't that bad either. next week a number of things will be happening in europe but the s&p, germany was up not far from the new high. spain was up. brazil a bit of an outlier. overall, a fairly good week for the stock market. >> rick, what say you? why are

than a week ago. bob redell joins us live outside parkside elementary school. bob, will parents notice these changes as soon as they drop off their kids this morning? >> reporter: absolutely. some of those changes went into effect last week. the idea they would all bow implemented by today. one of the most obvious is you can see they have got a new gate that's been installed here, so this dpat agate and all the oths will be locked. you might notice that the fence is pretty short, it's still hopable, but that's an issue the school is still looking at, whether they want to raise the fence. some of the other new security measures going into effect today here, locked gates. there's only one entrance for people coming to campus. that's the main entrance. they're using that as a choke point so they can keep track of who's coming an going. no one is allowed on campus to pick up or drop their children. they must be dropped off at the front entrance. and all visitors must sign in and wear a badge. these new measures are in response to what happened ten days ago. on friday the 21st, police say b

're going to play in 33 days if this man is allowed to continue. joining me now, bob shrum, democratic strategist, senior adviser to the kerry and gore campaigns who also ran ted kennedy's campaign against romney in 1994. he's writing in the daily beast oig today saying romney won the debate, but it was no game changer. and jared bernstein, msnbc contributor and former chief economist for vice president joe biden. bb, let me start with you. what are your thoughts? >> first of all, romney won a victory that was a victory of performance art built on a whole set of lies. i think people have counted up to 28 to 30 lies. and i actually think the president deserves some credit for at a couple of critical points holding romney accountable. it's a big victory to get romney to own voucher care as a replacement for medicare and the president also took romney on when he said no one over 65 will be affected because of the rebeautiful obamacare in fact as the president pointed out, seniorses will pay $600 more for prescription drugs and the medicare trust if you said will expire eight years sooner.
